East Asian women’s grief experiences in intimate partner violence
Summary
This study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of East Asian women’s grief experiences in intimate partner violence (IPV), and how their grief may be influenced by their minority identities such as race, gender, sexuality, and immigration status. The findings in this study will help build knowledge on the diverse collective experience of East Asian women’s grief in IPV, ways of resisting against IPV, as well as their unique needs. This understanding will give insights into potential therapeutic directions that can better support East Asian women’s healing after surviving IPV. In this study, you will be invited to complete two interviews either in person or through Zoom. The first interview will be about your general experiences of IPV and transition after leaving the abusive relationship. The second interview will focus more on your experiences of loss, and how these losses have been grieved. Each interview will take 60 to 90 minutes to complete. In both interviews, the researcher may ask follow-up questions to learn more about your experiences and how you make sense of them. It is entirely up to you how much information and to what extent you wish to share with the researcher. Upon completing the two interviews, the researcher will share a summary of your sharing to ensure that your experiences are well captured. If you have more to add to the summary, your additional sharing can be considered as the third interview. You have the options of completing the interviews in English, Mandarin, or Cantonese. All interviews will be audio-recorded, transcribed, and translated for analysis. As a token of appreciation, you will receive a total of $50 e-gift card upon completing two interviews.
