Exploring Newly Graduated Nurses' Experiences of Mentorship During Transition to Practice
Summary
In this study, researchers will explore experiences of mentorship and transition to practice for newly graduated nurses in Alberta and British Columbia. The aim of the study is to better understand these experiences to develop helpful and meaningful ways of supporting the transition to registered nurse practice.
Eligibility
Eligible ages: 18 to 65
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
You are eligible to participate in the study if:
(a) you are a newly-graduated registered nurse who graduated between December 2023 and June 2025;
(b) you are actively working in an acute care setting in either British Columbia or Alberta;
(c) you have been employed for a duration between six months and one year by January 2026;
(d) you can be available for two 60-90-minute virtual 1:1 interviews through Zoom.
Exclusion criteria:
You are not eligible to participate in the study if:
(a) you are practicing as a "travel nurse";
(b) you have previous practice experience as a licensed practical nurse or as a registered nurse in a country other than Canada.
