Filipino Experiences of Family Reunification in Alberta
Summary
It is common for Filipinos from the Philippines to travel overseas for work and to send remittances back home to their families. In some cases, Filipinos are able to settle in Canada and sponsor their families so they may begin to resettle together in Canada. This study looks to explore the reunification experiences of parents and their children separated due to needing to find work overseas and are able to reunify in Alberta, Canada though pagkikipagkwentuhans (group story telling).
Eligibility
Eligible ages: 15 to 99
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
If you are a parent, you must:
1. Identify as Filipino
2. Moved to Alberta as a labour migrant without your child(ren) within the last 10 years (ie. 2016-2026)
3. Has lived with your child(ren) in Alberta for any amount of time
4. Be able to communicate in English and/or Filipino
If you are a child, you must:
1. Be 15 – 24 years old
2. Identify as Filipino
3. Reunited with parents in Alberta within the last 10 years (ie. 2016-2026)
4. Lived with your parent(s) in Alberta for any amount of time
5. Be able to communicate in English and/or Filipino language
