Help Us Determine the Reliability of Wrist Assessments: Intra- and Inter-rater Reliability of a Wrist Range of Motion and Strength Testing Protocol

Summary

We are doing a study to see how well the same person can measure wrist range of motion and grip strength in healthy people. We will compare the evaluator's results to their own previous measures and to another evaluator's results. These measurements include checking movement and strength. Participants will come to our lab at the University of Calgary for two short visits, one week apart (30 minutes for the first visit and 10 to 15 minutes for the second). The purpose is to find out whether these simple tests can be trusted as reliable ways to measure wrist range of motion and strength in research studies.

Eligibility

Currently recruiting participants: Yes

Eligible ages: 14 to 23

Accepts healthy participants: Yes

Inclusion criteria:

You may be eligible if:

1. You are between 14 to 23 years of age
2. You have no active or recent (within the past 6 months) wrist injuries (i.e. fracture, broken wrist, sprains) or surgery
3. You are able to attend two testing sessions (30 minutes, and 10-15 minutes), one week apart, at the University of Calgary
4. You are comfortable with completing physical assessments including movements to measure wrist range of motion and strength testing

*If you experience wrist pain, but are still able to perform activities of daily living then you are still eligible

Exclusion criteria:

You are not eligible if:

1. You are not between 14 to 23 years of age
2. You have a current or recent (within the past 6 months) wrist injury or surgery
3. You cannot perform activities of daily living due to wrist pain/injury
