Investigation on Human Factors Design Parameters for New Inhalers
Summary
Inhaler technique is one of the most overlooked barriers to managing childhood asthma well. This study is exploring how children use their inhalers and your experience as a caregiver is exactly the kind of insight that can shape whether new technology actually works for real families. By sharing what you've seen, struggled with, or wished was different, you're helping design something that could make daily inhaler use simpler, less stressful, and more effective — not just for your child, but for the many families navigating the same challenges.
We are looking for caregivers of children who have used or currently use an inhaler to come and share their experiences with current inhaler devices. This study aims to design and evaluate a clip-on feedback module for pediatric inhaler spacers that provides real-time guidance on inhalation technique. Using airflow sensing and simple audio/visual cues, the device is intended to help children and caregivers recognize whether inhalation effort falls within the therapeutic range for effective medication delivery
