Menstrual Health Biomarkers in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Athletes
Summary
Two groups of participants will be recruited who are willing to track their urine hormones with an at-home monitor daily over three cycles.
The first group will include female athletes and the second group will be females with untreated Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (to be confirmed by a clinician).
You will use a custom App on your smartphone to enter daily hormone data and menstrual bleeding tracking over three cycles or three months.
You will receive a free monitor which gives the values of hormones in urine tested at home.
For PCOS participants (not athletes) you will do one time blood tests and be able to come
to a Calgary clinic to do one pelvic ultrasound.
The pelvic ultrasound is "endovaginal" (meaning the probe enters the vagina to visualize the ovaries) and if there is any unacceptable discomfort, the ultrasound will be stopped.
