Unwrapping Granulomas: Characterizing Lymphocyte Populations from Bronchoalveolar Lavage and Mediastinal Lymph Nodes from a Canadian Cohort with Sarcoidosis

Summary

Our project is focused on understanding the changes that occur in immune cells and why they are dysfunctional in lung samples from patients with sarcoidosis. We hope this will help us better understand sarcoidosis, which is a rare inflammatory condition that can affect the lungs and many other organs. We will analyze immune cells for their numbers and their metabolism found on washes of the lung, from lymph nodes in the lungs, and blood samples. With our analysis, the we hope to better understand why sarcoidosis occurs and why it progresses in some individuals. Better understanding of the disease will lead to development of targeted treatment options, and tools for physicians to better predict how sarcoidosis will behave in a patient.
