Winter Driving Simulation Participant Study: Hazard Detection & Warning Systems
Summary
This study looks at how drivers react to warning messages in a winter driving simulator. Participants will complete a short driving session in a simulated winter road environment where unexpected hazards may appear. The goal is to see if improved warning systems help drivers notice danger sooner and avoid near-miss situations. This information can help improve road safety technologies and reduce crashes in winter conditions.
Eligibility
Eligible ages: 16 to 99
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
You are able to take part in this study if you:
1. Have a valid driver’s licence or learner’s permit
2. Feel comfortable using a driving simulator
3. Are able to complete a short driving task in a seated position
4.Able to read and speak in basic English
5. Available to participate in the in-person study at the University of Calgary during the 11AM - 7PM period
6. Are a graduate, undergraduate, or faculty member at the University of Calgary.
Exclusion criteria:
There are no restrictions on participation in the study beyond those listed under the eligibility criteria. Every effort will be made to make the experiment as accessible as possible. The simulation experiment is designed assuming individuals are able to drive.
