About the program
The Government of Canada has launched the Eddie Goldenberg Research Chairs of Canada Competition (re-named from the Canada Impact+ Research Chairs on July 31, 2026) to recruit world-leading researchers whose work addresses critical national and global challenges. The Eddie Goldenberg Research Chairs of Canada program is a one-time initiative designed to support institutions in attracting such researchers.
On Aug. 27, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, announced the winners of the Eddie Goldenberg Research Chairs of Canada program, part of the Canada Global Impact+ Research Talent Initiative, launched in December 2025 as part of a $1.7 billion investment announced in Budget 2025.

Dr. Peter Jackson, PhD
Eddie Goldenberg Research Chair of Canada in Intelligence and Security in a Changing Global Order, Faculty of Arts
As an internationally recognized scholar of intelligence studies, his research will explore how intelligence can help policymakers respond to emerging security challenges, strengthen alliances, and protect Canada’s interests.
Dr. Katy Backes Kozhimannil, PhD
Eddie Goldenberg Research Chair of Canada in Maternal and Child Health Policy, Cumming School of Medicine
Kozhimannil's findings have improved maternal and child health care policy in the United States. Her research focuses on reducing maternal mortality rates, and improving health equity in rural areas, low-income communities, and with women of colour.
Dr. Bill Munro, DPhil, FAPS, FIOP, FOptica, FSPIE
Eddie Goldenberg Research Chair of Canada in Scalable Quantum Network Infrastructure (Faculty of Science)
His research program will explore building the foundation that will support the global use of quantum technologies. Munro has worked in industrial research and academic environments, where he has helped define quantum network architecture as a distinct systems-level discipline.

The addition of Eddie Goldenberg Research Chairs to our academy represents a significant opportunity for current faculty to expand and elevate their own research programs through meaningful collaboration.
