Eligibility
- Applicants must be from Athabasca University, the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, or the University of Lethbridge.
- Doctoral students may apply with their supervisor as a project member to administer the funds on behalf of the doctoral student.
- Post-doctoral scholars may apply (if required, the supervisor may administer funds on behalf of the post-doctoral scholar)
- Academic staff members holding academic appointment as continuing, limited, or contingent term.
- Early Career Researchers (ECR) will be given preference. In recognition of the unique experiences and structural barriers faced by Indigenous scholars, ECR Indigenous scholars also include PhD students, postdoctoral scholars, and other pre-faculty researchers. For academic staff, an ECR is generally defined as a researcher within five years of the date of their first independent research-related appointment (excluding relevant leaves).

There are five awards of up to $10,000 available for this round.
Award funds may be used for, but are not limited to, initial community engagement, hiring research staff, support for literature review, grant writing, ceremonial protocol support, honoraria, visuals, connection and early knowledge engagement/presentations with Indigenous community(ies), and travel to develop partnerships. These awards are open to all faculties.
