About the Institutional Infrastructure for Innovation
The Institutional Infrastructure for Innovation (III) at the University of Calgary is a world-class research and development hub that transforms ideas into impactful solutions. Originally established through UCalgary’s first Canada Excellence Research Chair program, the III has since evolved into a campus-wide resource, supporting researchers, startups, industry partners, and external organizations.
The III provides a critical combination of space, instrumentation, and expertise to accelerate innovation in energy, environmental, and materials science. This infrastructure is available to UCalgary faculty, staff, and students, as well as to startups and external clients who need space and guidance to move their research forward.UCalgary's Institutional Infrastructure for Innovation (III) is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to curiosity, exploration driven research, and problem-solving. Our highly experienced team of engineers and scientists, in combination with research-grade laboratory and bench-scale core evaluation equipment, have produced a significant body of high-impact knowledge and results. This includes numerous patents, start-up companies, and publications in the fields of energy research, carbon reduction, pipeline protection, and enhanced oil recovery from unconventional reserves.
Removing Barriers to Innovation
Whether you're a university researcher with a startup idea or an early-stage company officer, you need space, instrumentation, and mentorship to demonstrate and de-risk your technology. The III provides all three, saving you your most precious resources: time and money.
Instead of searching for space and raising funds for equipment, your team can focus on advancing its technology. By collaborating with III mentors, who have extensive experience in both research and entrepreneurship, you can be confident that you're addressing the most relevant questions for de-risking your technology.
