Account Set Up

Follow these steps to ensure you have all the required accounts set up to access IRISS:

Your UCID number is the eight digit number assigned to you by the University of Calgary. 

Note: All Researchers affiliated with UCalgary must access IRISS using their UCalgary account, regardless of the specific REB they are applying to.

To Register for a UCID:

  1. Download the Associate-Limited Access UCID Number Request Form below
  2. Fill in the Request Detail and Personal Information SECTIONS ONLY 
  3. Email the form with completed sections to iriss.support@ucalgary.ca

You will be notified once your UCID# has been activated. Follow the instructions in the notification email to create your IT Username.

An IT account provides you a secure way of identifying yourself to a variety of online and on-campus services available at the University of Calgary.

It is a unique digital identity that follows the naming convention of firstname.lastname. 

To Register for a UCalgary IT account:

  1. Get an active UCID number (Follow the steps above if you do not have a UCID.)
  2. Register for an IT account

 

Logging into IRISS, like many systems on campus, now requires Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA):  

IRISS is accessible through the University of Calgary's CAS (Central Authorization System) portal.

To get an IRISS account:

  1. Register for an active IT account
  2. Log into the UCalgary' CAS system using your IT username and password
  3. Register for an IRISS account 
  4. Once approved, log-in to IRISS through the main CAS portal above.

To deactivate your IRISS account, email the IRISS help desk.

HREBA users: please do not open a second IRISS account. 

Once you have a received confirmation that your IRISS account is ACTIVE, contact iriss.support@ucalgary.ca to request access to the HREBA boards from within IRISS.

Access in IRISS:

If you are applying to one of the HREBA committees including:

  • HREBA-CC (Cancer Committee)
  • HREBA-CTC (Clinical Trials Committee)
  • HREBA-CHC (Community Health Committee)

You will need your IRISS account configured to show these committees as selectable options in your application.

Cumming School of Medicine Review

Contracts and Agreements

The Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) Legal team assists with drafting, negotiation, and execution of contracts and agreements for researchers conducting research through their CSM appointment. Integrations will allow direct access to draft, edit, and submit requests for legal council through IRISS as well as link key documents digitally within the network.

Request resources and facility approvals from Alberta Health Services directly within IRISS. See the status of your requests and review archived communications.

Recruit Participants

Participate in Research is an initiative led by the Office of the Vice-President (Research) to support researchers to recruit human participants for research studies.

OnCore clinical trial management system (CTMS)

Clinical Trial Management

The OnCore clinical trial management system (CTMS) is the University of Calgary's institution-wide system for managing clinical trials. IRISS is integrated with OnCore to provide ethics approval certificates, effective and expiry dates, and accept clinical trial study documents. This efficiency reduces the need to upload duplicate documentation through multiple, stand-alone systems.

Recruit Participants - external

Find ways to participate in either Research Opportunities or Research Studies across the province. Researchers can indicate in their ethics application through IRISS if the study is actively recruiting participants. Studies looking for participants are then listed on the BeTheCure.ca website in addition to the UCalgary's Participate in Research site.
