Biography

Dr. Thompson received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alberta in 2002 and completed her residency training in Family Medicine at the same university in 2004. Since she began practicing medicine, she has been passionate about providing care and addressing health inequities in groups experiencing health-related disadvantages. She has been an active member of solution-focused organizations and committees related to improving the health of individuals and communities. In Calgary, Canada she was the Co-Chair of the Prevention Sub-Committee for the Committee to End Homelessness; the Director of a highly innovative housing and health start-up program; and was appointed as a Member of the Board for the Alberta Secretariat for Action on Homelessness which developed a 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness for the province of Alberta. While in the USA, she worked in academia and founded a student-run community health clinic called Student Health Outreach for Wellness (SHOW) which provides integrated healthcare services to unhoused individuals in Phoenix, Arizona. She was also a member of the Board of Trustees for the Vitalyst Health Foundation, which focuses on improving the health of individuals and communities in Arizona.

Since 2010, Dr. Thompson has undertaken consulting projects that focus on developing and implementing strategies and programs in integrated care, interprofessional practice, health equity, tobacco cessation, and mental health. She has provided consulting services to government, health plans, private sector, and community organizations in Canada and the USA in public policy development, strategy, operations, clinical program design and implementation, evaluation, and curriculum design and implementation. In her most recent professional work, Dr. Thompson enjoys working with transdisciplinary teams that focus on tackling complex problems using a One Health approach to improve the health of people, animals, and the environment. In her spare time, she enjoys participating in agility and nose work dog sports with her two dogs Oscar and Luna.
