Research Services supports researchers to pursue and obtain a wide range of funding, including external grants, institutional-focused programs, and internally managed grants.
These teams can help navigate the application process, advise on what to include, provide resources and support your submission throughout the cycle.
Search the Research Opportunities Database (ROD) for the most common grants, fellowships, and programs at UCalgary. This database includes: research opportunities for faculty and postdocs, prizes and awards, and some scholarships and research studentships for graduate and undergraduate students.

Funding - External Grants and Institutional Programs
External awards are administered by the Grants and Awards Division of Research Services while the Institutional Programs Division (IPD) handles high-risk, high-reward, highly complex, and multi-partner programs, often targeting commercialization as a desired outcome.

Research Accounting
Research accounting can help project holders ensure funds are used in accordance with the granting or contracting agency’s terms and conditions; follow agency guidelines and University of Calgary’s policies and procedures; and ensure funds are spent within the allowed budget.

Ensure all agreements accurately reflect the terms of the relationship and meet the requirements
of the researchers, students, University, and sponsors involved in the research project.

The Office of Institutional Commitments (OIC) unites our efforts to advance Community Mental Health and Well-being (CMHW); Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA); and Sustainability under one integrated framework.
Research Management System (RMS)
RMS (Research Management System) manages the pre-award (LOI and Application) and post-award stages for research grants.

Research Overhead Training
All Principal Investigators are encouraged to complete the 30-minute, self-directed training module
and short quiz in order to receive legal review for agreements once the updated rates go into effect.

Research Security Division (RSD)
Supports the research community by identifying and mitigating possible risks from unwanted
access, interference, or theft.

Signatures Guide
The guideline details both the rationale and the commitment a signature acknowledges on an application. It also covers letters of intent, new project and renewal requests and requests made by letter, proposal or preprinted forms.

SUPPORT
The Strategic University Proposal and Platform Opportunity Review Team (SUPPORT) is a Vice-President (Research) (VPR) led initiative created to help faculty member become more successful in major grant competition and awards while ensuring that institutional commitment identified in applications can be fulfilled.

Working closely with the prestigious Canada Research Chairs program, Research Services teams manage high profile programs such as the Canada Research Chairs and Canda Excellence in Research Chairs with the VPR Office oversees internal programs including the UCalgary Excellence Research Chair.
