Mitacs is a national not-for-profit that helps industry and non-profit partners solve strategic challenges by leveraging Canada’s world-class post-secondary talent and a global network of industry, academic, and government partnerships. Through these collaborations, Mitacs helps business and community partners succeed, improves students’ on-the-job skills development, and strengthens Canada’s world-class innovation ecosystem.
Funding is open to all disciplines. All Mitacs internships are paid a minimum of $10,000, and funding can go up to $180,000. Projects can last between 4 months to 4 years.
Mitacs Accelerate
Accelerate is the flagship program of Mitacs, and is open to undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows from all disciplines. Accelerate interns will have the opportunity to collaborate with industry on research-focused projects. (Student entrepreneurs should contact Mitacs about a special opportunity to apply for funding for their own startups under this program.) Projects can range from four months up to 5 years in length, with funding starting at $10,000. Applications are accepted throughout the year on a non-competitive basis.
Mitacs Elevate
Elevate is a competitive two-year fellowship for postdoctoral fellows (PDFs), where participants undertake a research project with an industry partner. The program provides PDFs with experiential training in R&D through an industry-academic research collaboration, as well as leadership training and business acumen through the program’s training curriculum. Applications are open twice a year, and are selected from across Canada on a competitive basis.
Mitacs Globalink Research Award (GRA)
The Globalink Research Award provides $6,000 for senior undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows in Canada to conduct 12–24-week research projects at universities overseas. (This award is also open to students and postdoctoral fellows currently studying at foreign universities to conduct research in Canada.) Mitacs Business Strategy Internship (BSI)
The Business Strategy Internship (BSI) program is open to undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows from all disciplines. BSI interns will have the opportunity to collaborate with industry on innovation and development-focused projects. Innovation-based projects are those aimed at improving products and services, processes, or the organization as a whole. Projects can range from four months up to 5 years in length, with funding starting at $10,000. Applications are accepted throughout the year on a non-competitive basis.

Write a draft application for pre-screening and feedback by a Mitacs representative.
Submit your application
Applications have a success rate of over 90%. Once an application has been approved, you can begin the same day, or anytime within 12 months.
