Visiting Scholars from France

The Visiting Scholars from France is a program launched by the University of Calgary in partnership with the French Embassy in Canada and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS).

This initiative aims to strengthen UCalgary–France collaboration in science, technology, and innovation through substantive research visits.

The program will bring at least four distinguished scholars from France to UCalgary for a period of two to six months, fostering research, innovation, and knowledge exchange in the following priority areas: 

  • Emerging technologies: including research areas related to AI, quantum sciences, societal impact and mathematics
  • Health: including research areas related to global health, public health policy, genomics, and molecular biology
  • Oceanic and polar sciences: including research areas related to oceanography, biodiversity, and marine ecology
  • Energy: including research areas related to renewable energies, net-zero transitions, and sustainability

Value of Award: $25,000 (CAD)

Return economy airfare between France and Calgary

Visit range: 2 to 6 months

Deadline: February 28, 2026

Results will be announced in April 2026


 

Eligibility

  • This program is not open to self-nomination or direct application by scholars external to the UCalgary. Nominations must be initiated by a host UCalgary faculty member in collaboration with their home unit.
  • The Visiting Scholar from France program is open to all researchers with a permanent position at a public French university or national research centres in France, regardless of the researcher’s academic rank, and/or nationality.
  • Non-European laureates who require a visa to enter Canada are responsible for the procedures involved in obtaining this visa. As visa applications can take 2-3 months, laureates must begin the process as soon as the results are announced. Please contact hrimmigration@ucalgary.ca for questions.
  • Postdoctoral scholars and graduate students are not eligible to apply.
