The University of Calgary is a founding member of The Conversation Canada, an independent, non-profit digital publication that publishes news, analysis, and "explanatory journalism" written exclusively by academics and researchers.

Writing for The Conversation

Articles published in The Conversation are authored by university faculty, emeriti, and post-doctoral fellows. They can be co-authored with faculty members from other institutions as well as PhD and Master students.

All authors are experts in their areas.

Written in the first person, articles are research-based analysis that is grounded in the author’s experience or the work of others in the field. Professional editors work directly with the authors to publish articles.

Benefits:

  • Non-profit, independent journalism – No paywalls
  • Articles published on The Conversation may be republished elsewhere for free by other media outlets and organizations - Creative Commons
  • Stories can lead to possible follow-up media requests and invitations for further engagement activities
  • Editors can provide personalized training if you haven’t written for a general audience
  • Authors provide final approval of the article

There are then two ways to write for The Conversation:

  1. Pitch your own story
  2. Sign up and respond to an expert story request on a specific topic

A Knowledge Mobilization Activity
