On a continual basis, Research Services shares funding opportunities from foundations, societies and not-for-profit organizations with the University of Calgary research community. These regional, national, and international opportunities often have specific requirements unique to their organizations.

Foundations, societies, and not-for-profit (selected)
Alberta Cancer Foundation is building on its past investments and the excellent foundation of science and infrastructure in the province through a new approach to investing in research that is transformative, that forms the basis for innovation and focuses on improved outcomes.
Alberta Conservation Association is funded by the province’s hunters and anglers, supporting a variety of projects both small and large which benefit Alberta’s wildlife and fish populations, as well as the habitat they depend on.
Arthritis Society is the largest non-government funder of basic and applied arthritis research (more than $185M), which has led to significant breakthroughs in the diagnosis, treatments, and care of patients with arthritis.
Canadian Cancer Society is a national community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer.
Cancer Research Society is a national not-for-profit organization whose sole mission is to fund research on all types of cancer, thereby contributing to the advancement of science aimed at preventing, detecting, and treating this disease.
Crohn’s and Colitis Canada has developed a research strategy which also recognizes the importance of supporting research that improves the lives of people living with Crohn’s and colitis. This will ensure that patients are getting the best care and are better able to manage their disease and its symptoms.
Grand Challenges Canada is funded by the Government of Canada and has developed several funding schemes to support BOLD Ideas with Big Impact from the best and brightest talent, both in low-and middle-lower income countries and in Canada, to use scientific/technical, social and business innovation to address some of the most pressing global health challenges.
Heart and Stroke Foundation is a volunteer‐based health charity, leads in eliminating heart disease and stroke and reducing their impact through the advancement of research and its application, the promotion of healthy living, and advocacy. Heart and Stroke Foundation funds projects from all four pillars of health research.
Lung Association has a national and provincial chapter which both seek cures for lung disease, the education of Canadians about the dangers of tobacco, and which both fight for clean air.
MSI Foundation is an Alberta-based health research funding organization fostering and supporting research into any aspect of the provision of health and allied services to the people of Alberta, and the promotion of matters of health in the interest of the people of Alberta.
Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada invests in research that will produce the greatest benefit for all those deeply affected by MS. Currently they welcome applications that are fundamental as well as applied studies, nonclinical or clinical in nature, including projects in patient management, care and rehabilitation in their annual operating grant competition.
PolicyWise for Children & Families exists to improve child, family and community well-being by leading, creating and mobilizing research and evaluation for evidence-informed policy and practice.
