Guiding UCalgary's journey
ii’ taa’poh’to’p guides the University of Calgary on its path of transformation and reflects the university’s commitment and responsibility for truth and reconciliation. It is a living document within UCalgary, continually monitored and renewed through evaluation and evolution.
UCalgary is developing the Indigenous Research Implementation Plan as a complementary document to guide the development and ongoing support to ethical Indigenous research. The plan will bring together ii’ taa’poh’to’p and Ahead of Tomorrow’s Research and Innovation Plan in a cohesive way, rooting Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Being, Doing and Connecting into the university’s research practices.
Building on ii’ taa’poh’to’p and its goals to transform research at UCalgary, a common purpose and a parallel process have been established to develop the Indigenous Research Implementation Plan.
Our Common Purpose
To transform the academic research landscape at UCalgary and enhance Indigenous research together in a good way
The Parallel Process
Informed by the process outlined in Appendix B of ii’ taa’poh’to’p, four stages of strategy development with a parallel path approach and cycles of internal and external consultations have been developed.
Institutional Framework (written) | Indigenous Framework (oral) | |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 1: | Developing Proposed Process | Setting Out |
| Setting Goals | Defining a Common Purpose | |
| Stage 2: | Information Gathering | Gathering Stories |
| Data Collection | ||
| Stage 3: | Data Compilation and Analysis | Bringing the Stories Home |
| Additional Data Collection Cycles | Gathering More Stories to Bring Home | |
| Stage 4: | Writing the Plan | Empowering the Spirit of Indigenization |
| Sharing Information and Launch |
ii’ taa’poh’to’p Indigenous Research Implementation Plan: Gathering Stories
This November and December, the UCalgary community is invited to take part in a series of engagement sessions to support the development of the Indigenous Research Implementation Plan. These sessions will provide opportunities for faculty, staff and students to:
- Share ideas, perspectives and experiences
- Ask questions
- Contribute to shaping the plan
How will the information I share be used?
Once the engagement phase has been completed, information will be compiled in a guiding document and presented in a meeting with Elders from the current Indigenous research steering circle.
