Medal for Distinguished Service
Physician (may or may not be an AMA member) who has made an outstanding personal contribution to the medical profession and to the people of Alberta that has:
- Contributed to the art and science of medicine.
- Raised the standards of medical practice.
Medal of Honour
Non-physician who has made an outstanding personal contribution to the people of Alberta by:
- Contributing to the advancement of medical research, medical education, health care organization, health education and/or health promotion to the public.
- Raising the standards of health care in Alberta.
Award for Compassionate Service
Compassionate service is viewed as:
- Demonstrating a significant and extraordinary contribution to volunteer or philanthropic efforts.
- Enhancing the reputation of physicians as compassionate members of the community by giving back locally, nationally or internationally.
- Going outside of one's normal duties and practices to care for others who would otherwise not receive care or support.
Summary
Awards and scholarships are just one of the ways we work to fulfill that mission by:
- Contributing to new physicians in the health care system through scholarships and bursaries that help to defray the high costs of medical education.
- Contributing to the sustainability of Alberta’s health care system through a scholarship for physicians seeking additional training in a clinical area of recognized need.
- Promoting development of the physician's role as an advocate for healthy populations through a grant for physicians-in-training.
- Recognizing physicians and others who have made significant contributions to medicine or to our health care system.

AMA Achievement Awards: AMA's Achievement Awards honor contributions to quality health care in Alberta.
AMA Award for Compassionate Service: The AMA Award for Compassionate Service honors a physician who is an AMA member and, during their career, has demonstrated outstanding compassion, philanthropy and/or volunteerism to improve the state of the community in which they are giving back.
