Louis and Artur Lucian Award

Eligibility

The Award will be conferred upon the individual or individuals nominated, who in the opinion of the Award Committee, have made the most outstanding contribution towards research in the field of circulatory diseases. The Award Committee recognizes no geographical limitations; nominations are invited without distinction as to gender or nationality. Preference will be given to work done in the recent past.

Summary

The Louis and Artur Lucian Award was established through a bequest to McGill University under the will of the late Olga Leibovici to honour the donor's two brothers, and was conferred for the first time in 1978. The Award is designed to honour outstanding research in the field of circulatory diseases by a scientific investigator or group of investigators whose contribution to knowledge in this field is deemed worthy of special recognition. As per the terms of the bequest, the work of the nominee must be current. The Louis and Artur Lucian Award consists of a $75,000 CDN prize to the recipient. The Lucian endowment will also support a collaborative project with the Lucian awardee. It is hoped that through this Award, collaborative research in the field of circulatory diseases can be established between McGill and research centres elsewhere in Canada, the United States and other countries of the world. 

The successful recipient is invited to spend a minimum of a one- to two-week period of time at McGill University to give a formal Lucian Lecture, to have interchanges with members of the McGill community, and possibly to undertake a research collaboration with McGill investigators in the field of circulatory diseases.

Prospective recipients should be nominated on the form provided below. This form, together with the supporting materials, should be returned to Dr. Terry Hébert, Chair, the Louis and Artur Lucian Award Committee at lucianaward@mcgill.ca on or before April 5th, 2024.

2024 Nomination Form

Please provide the following supporting materials and return them together with the nomination form:

1. A nomination letter in support, preferably less than 1,000 words, of the research on which this nomination is based and its significance in the field of circulatory diseases.
2. A brief biographical sketch of the nominee (NIH format, 4pages – see www.nih.gov).
3. The nominee’s most significant publications related to the research noted under Item 1, and the reason for their significance.
4. An outline of the proposed research and/or academic activities (seminars, discussions) to be carried out at McGill and the names of potential McGill correspondents and host laboratories. A one to two-week residence at McGill University during the academic year should be anticipated by the nominee. The potential for collaborative research with McGill University faculty members is an important goal of the visit.
5. A full Curriculum Vitae, including training, positions held and awards received by the nominee and, if available and applicable, a summary of grant funding, including amounts, during the last five years and a complete listing of the nominee’s publications (please omit abstracts).
