The Steacie Prize is a Canadian award of $10,000 presented once a year to a scientist or engineer of 40 years of age or less for outstanding scientific research carried out in Canada. 

Summary

The Steacie Prize is named in memory of E.W.R. Steacie, a physical chemist and former President of the National Research Council of Canada, to whom much is owed for the development of science in Canada. The Prize is awarded annually to a young scientist or engineer in Canada.

Additional Information

Nominations should be made by a colleague and sent by e-mail (*.doc and/or *.pdf files please) to PrixSteaciePrize@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca . Deadline for receipt is August 31, 2025. The following should be included:

  • An introductory letter explaining why the candidate should be considered for the prize (please include the candidate’s year of birth)
  • A curriculum vitae with publication list
  • Letters of evaluation from a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 expert and independent external referees
  • Extensions beyond the 40 year age requirement are permitted for official leaves, including parental and sick leave, and must be specified in the nomination letter
