Examining Moral Injury, Spirituality, and Job Retention, for Alberta Emergency Services Workers
Summary
First responders and emergency services workers (FRESW) face unique psychological challenges. They often deal with traumatic and morally distressing situations. These experiences can lead to psychological injuries, like moral injury and spiritual distress. Such issues may impact job satisfaction and retention.
This study looks at how moral injury, spirituality, and job retention connect for emergency services workers in Alberta. We also plan to introduce and assess a new SMART program. This program focuses on Spirituality, Moral Courage, Active Living, and Resilience Training. Additionally, we aim to collect recommendations for spiritually-informed prevention and recovery models.
