Susan Skone
Associate Vice-President (Research)
Susan Skone is a Professor in the Department of Geomatics Engineering and Associate Vice-President (Research) at the University of Calgary. Previously she held appointments as Interim Head Geomatics Engineering and Associate Dean (Research) in the Schulich School of Engineering. Dr. Skone conducts research in Global Navigation Satellite Systems, leading national projects in GPS technology for commercial aviation, maritime navigation and spaceborne applications. She led the CanX-2 satellite mission GPS payload and has developed licensed software products for government and industry. Her research team has received more than 20 awards in aerospace research.
Dr. Skone has served in the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute Executive Council, Tecterra and Cybera Board of Directors, and the National Science Foundation CEDAR Steering Committee, among others.
Dr. Skone served as a Maritime Surface and Sub-Surface (MARS) Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy (Reserves) for more than 25 years. She held positions of Training Officer, Operations Officer, Navigating Officer and Executive Officer in minor warships.
