Eligibility
A Project Team applying for a Small Research Project will comprise a Lead Applicant and may include any number of Collaborator(s).
The Lead Applicant has the overall responsibility for the scientific conduct of the research project. The Lead Applicant can be a veterinary surgeon, scientist or other practitioner in equine-related field. Lead Applicants who are academic staff of universities or other academic institutions must:
- be a full-time and salaried employee of the Administering Institution (the applying Administering Institution cannot request for any support for salary and other employment benefits of the Principal Investigator from the Foundation);
- have the overall responsibility for the scientific direction and technical oversight of the research project; and
- be the primary contact for the Foundation.
Summary
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Equine Welfare Research Foundation Limited was established in 2020 with the mandate to constantly improve the quality of life of Thoroughbred racehorses throughout and after their racing careers and to educate the public about equine health and welfare.
The 2024 HKJC Small Research Project program offers opportunities to clinicians, scientists and practitioners working in the equine field to develop ideas and practices which may be applicable in their workplaces and of benefit to the wider community.

Approvals
NOTE: Consult your Faculty Associate Dean (Research) (ADR) regarding Faculty-specific deadlines and submission processes.
Principal Investigators: Complete a Research Management System (RMS) record, including a copy of your complete application, and submit this for approvals in RMS.
Approvals: The University of Calgary requires that all funding applications be approved prior to submission. Approval requires signatures via RMS in the following order:
- Principal Investigator
- Department Head
- Faculty ADR/Dean
- Research Services (on behalf of the Vice-President Research)

Late submissions: Late submissions will only be accepted in cases of medical or family emergencies, or other exceptional circumstances.
