Applicant eligibility
- Landscape architects practicing within or outside of Canada are eligible to enter, provided that at least one member of the project team who played a leading role in the project is a member in good standing of the CSLA
- for the Research category ONLY, the following are eligible to enter:
- professors or researchers employed by a LAAC-accredited university, or
- landscape architects practicing within or outside of Canada who are CSLA members in good standing
- for projects in Canada outside the jurisdiction of the applicant's component association(s), the applicant must demonstrate that they held membership in the host jurisdiction for the project’s duration illustrated by obtaining a letter of membership confirmation from the host component association, and
- for projects located outside of Canada, the applicant must provide proof of licensure in the host jurisdiction, if applicable.
Project Eligibility
- International projects may be submitted: for projects outside of Canada and the US: an external assessment may required, and
- previously submitted projects may be re-submitted provided they have not previously received a CSLA Award of Excellence and declared as such in the submission form.
- If your project is being re-submitted after having not been selected in previous years, you are strongly encouraged to update and re-write your submission, focusing on how the project responds to the assessment criteria.

Submissions will be judged and awarded at two levels:
- National Awards, and
- Jury’s Award of Excellence.
Summary
Background
The CSLA’s Awards of Excellence Program is administered by the CSLA’s Awards of Excellence Committee in association with its component associations.
Purpose
The Program is intended to:
- recognize and promote excellence in all aspects of the profession, and
- communicate a strong awareness of the profession of landscape architecture to related professions, potential clients, and the public.
Deadline
All submissions must be received no later than Tuesday January 21st, 2025 at 4 pm ET. Late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.

Approvals
NOTE: Consult your Faculty Associate Dean (Research) (ADR) regarding Faculty-specific deadlines and submission processes.
Principal Investigators: Complete a Research Management System (RMS) record, including a copy of your complete application, and submit this for approvals in RMS.
Postdocs, students, and trainees: For fellowships and externally-sponsored research training awards or opportunities, you must complete the Research Funding Application Approval (RFAA) Trainee PDF form, and submit it, along with a complete copy of the application, to Research Services at rsotrainee@ucalgary.ca. Trainees should not use RMS at this time.
Approvals: The University of Calgary requires that all funding applications be approved prior to submission. Approval requires signatures via either RMS or the RFAA Trainee form, in the following order:
- Principal Investigator
- Department Head
- Faculty ADR/Dean
- Research Services (on behalf of the Vice-President Research)

Late submissions: Late submissions will only be accepted in cases of medical or family emergencies, or other exceptional circumstances.
