Bank of Canada Fellowship Award

Eligibility

The Bank recognizes the value diverse perspectives and knowledge bring to its work on behalf of Canadians. It promotes the advancement of all persons specializing in economics and finance regardless of race, ethnicity, colour, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, socio-economic background or lived experience and encourages the nominations of researchers with a range of identities and backgrounds.

Fellowship Award nominees are required to:

• be Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, or be otherwise legally permitted to work in Canada
• conduct and support research in Economics or Finance in Canada (nominations where the majority of the research is in Canada could also be considered)
• be employed by a Canadian university in a tenured position during the term of the Fellowship Award

Summary

The Fellowship Award provides financial support to academics who are recognized for their expertise and research in areas important to the Bank's core functions.

The award is for a term of up to five years and consists of these annual payments, subject to an annual review and confirmation process:

• a $50,000 research grant
• a $40,000 research expense allowance for related research expenses and for research assistants
• a sum of $5,000 for the university to administer the award funds

Nomination process
The documents for a nomination are to be submitted via email by the following parties:
Nominating university

1. cover page
2. nomination letter (signed by either the University President (see below) or candidate's Dean)
3. curriculum vitae
4. research program and plan
5. recent paper and four abstracts

Independent referee (optional)

6. reference letter (sent directly to the Bank of Canada by the referee)

All documents are to be sent to fellowship-bourses@bankofcanada.ca.

Submission
Each party (nominating university; referee) must submit their required document(s) to the Bank of Canada (fellowship-bourses@bank-banque-canada.ca) by November 30, 2023.

Nomination by the President of the University of Calgary
Candidates seeking nomination by the President of the University of Calgary must send the complete nomination package to Research Services (researchawards@ucalgary.ca), including a draft nomination letter, by November 15, 2023, in order to give time for the review, editing, and signing of the nomination. Research Services will submit the required documents (see Submitted by the Nominating University, above), including the nomination letter, to the Bank of Canada.
