1. Must commence by the effective date of funding.
2. Allows the individual to pursue the proposed research project, to engage in independent research activities for the entire duration of the funding, to supervise trainees (if applicable, as per their institution’s policy), and to publish the research results.
3. Obligates the individual to conform to institutional regulations concerning the conduct of research, the supervision of trainees, and the employment conditions of staff paid with the funding.
4. Fellows may apply provided they are under the supervision of a primary investigator who meets the requirements of a “researcher” as defined above.
5. New researchers/investigators involved in pilot, basic science, proof of concept projects are strongly encouraged to apply.

Summary

The Geoff Ogram Memorial Research Grant (GOMRG) supports advancement in lung cancer research
programs that are anywhere in the continuum from basic, high impact discovery to translational work of
direct relevance to the clinic and beyond. The goal of the GOMRG program is to provide a mechanism for
scientists to study innovations and accelerate the application of new knowledge relating to the early
detection of lung cancer and the etiology of lung cancer in different demographics and populations.

Applications are encouraged from, but not limited to, the areas of biomedical, clinical, health services, social, and population health research.

The overall goal of the GOMRG is to reduce the burden of lung cancer and optimize patient care. It
is not intended to support awareness programs and is not intended to solely support research infrastructure.
This is intended as a research grant and the funds may not be completely used to support a fellow.

FUNDS AVAILABLE:
In 2023, up to two (2) grants of $25,000 CAD each will be awarded. Funding will be provided to support the direct costs of a defined research program, including supplies, expenses*, wages and equipment associated with the proposed work. While wages may form part of the expenses, this grant is not intended as a fellowship. Indirect costs** are not eligible expenses.

OBJECTIVES:
This grant provides a research opportunity focused in:
1. Research into early detection lung cancer methodologies, including but not limited to screening OR blood
based testing. Early detection research among those not meeting current screening criteria would be
welcomed.
2. Research into the etiology of lung cancer of different populations and demographics, specifically light
ex-smokers or non-smokers.
Proposals with direct practical relevance to Canadians with lung cancer will be prioritized.

Overhead

Overhead is not an allowable expense
