Undergraduate Student
  • Eligible applicants should be enrolled in or accepted to a full-time undergraduate program in a health-related discipline.
  • Applicants must be supervised or co-supervised by a researcher with an academic appointment at an academic institution in Alberta.
  • The applicant’s area of research must be related to the following areas:
    • Living Well
    • Getting Well
    • Palliative approaches to care
    • Supporting partners in care
  • Holders of other full-time studentship awards granted by a provincial or national funding body (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC, AI, etc.) are ineligible.
  • Successful award recipients cannot accept more than one Summer Studentship, regardless of the funding source.
  • Students cannot be attending school or be employed in another full-time position at the same time as receiving the award.
  • The funding is intended as a student stipend and is not designed to fund the research project or research activities. 

All research topics aligned with the four strategic directions listed above are welcome, but projects addressing the “Living Well” priority area will be particularly appreciated, with at least one stipend awarded to an applicant within this priority area (topics such as the maintenance of health and/orquality of life through the prevention of disease and/or disability, living well with multiple chronic conditions, ageing in place, etc.)

Summary

The Scientific Office of the Provincial Seniors Health and Continuing Care program, Alberta Health Services, is providing funds for an Undergraduate Summer Studentship Competition. The aim of this opportunity is to facilitate the pursuit of knowledge and build capacity related to its broad strategic themes:

  • Living Well
  • Getting Well
  • Palliative approaches to care
  • Supporting partners in care

Applications should be submitted electronically to Dr. Heather Hanson, Assistant Scientific Director, Provincial Seniors Health and Continuing Care (heather.hanson@ahs.ca), who will coordinate the competition. Applications must be submitted using a standardized application form; incomplete or late forms will not be considered. Please submit your application as a single pdf package. The deadline for submissions is 4pm on Friday, February 9, 2024.

PSHCC 2024 Summer Studentship Application

Applications will be reviewed by a panel. The assessment criteria will include:

  1. Quality of the research proposal,
  2. Distinctive contribution to, and likely impact on, seniors’ health and healthcare,
  3. The quality of the research/training/supervisory environment, and
  4. Student’s academic record.

Formal letters of notification will be sent to applicants and their supervisors. The offer of award letters will include the terms and conditions of the award and the reporting requirements.
