Eligibility
The Zuckerberg Water Prize is an international award, and the Executive Committee welcomes the nomination of candidates researching, developing or implementing impactful and lasting water knowledge, solutions, management and policies all over the world.
Summary
Water touches each and every one of us on this planet as the root of our food, our health, our livelihoods, and very lives – in routine and in emergencies. Climate change amid the growing global population poses a clear challenge: there is less of it, and more of us. This requires urgent solutions across the board to ensure both the quantity and quality of water through science, technology, engineering, agriculture, systems, development, and more.
The Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research (ZIWR) at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is uniquely positioned at the tip of the expanding desert to conduct and facilitate advanced water research. Founded two decades ago, ZIWR engages in experimental and theoretical research with its interdisciplinary team of hydrologists, soil scientists, geologists, chemists, microbiologists, and engineers.
Inaugurated in 2022, this legacy award was established to acknowledge the outstanding achievements and global impact of an individual or organization in the broader field of Water.
The prize is awarded within the International Water Summit, with a special ceremony and gala evening featuring the laureate as keynote speaker.
