Caregiver experiences and impact of social cognition difficulties in persons living with dementia.
Summary
Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia. It can be associated with early changes in social cognition, which affect people's understanding of how to process their social environment, of what behaviors are appropriate and acceptable, versus ones that are hurtful and potentially dangerous. These changes can be unexpected and upsetting to caregivers, and it is important to understand more about their prevalence and impact. In this study, we will identify the most common changes in social cognition among persons in the early stages of dementia, measure their impact on caregivers, and create an online learning module to provide caregivers with more information about the cause and course of these difficulties.
