Emotion regulation, eating pathology, and gambling in men.
Summary
We are recruiting men who gamble, binge eat, or both to participate in a longitudinal, online study. We hope to learn more about the commonalities and differences between addictive and eating behaviours. Participants will be asked to complete four surveys over six months. Participants who complete the first survey will receive a $20 gift card for completing the first survey, $5 gift card for each of the brief second and fourth month surveys, and $30 gift card for completing the 6-month survey.
Participants will be asked to
1. Complete a screening interview to determine eligibility over the phone (approximately 10 -20 minutes).
2. If eligible, participants will complete a 60 minute online survey at baseline and six-months.
3. Eligible participants will also be asked to complete two 5-minute online surveys at two and four months.
All participation is confidential.
Eligibility
Eligible ages: 18 to 99
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
1. Adult men 18 or older
2. Adult men who have gambled in the past year – AND/OR-
3. Adult men who binge eat (i.e., eating an unusually large amount of food within a 2-hour period while experiencing a loss of control).
4. Fluent in English
Exclusion criteria:
1. Women
2. People under 18 years old
3. Non-fluent English speakers
4. Men who have NOT gambled in the past year OR Men who have NOT binge eaten (i.e., eating an unusually large amount of food within a 2-hour period while experiencing a loss of control) in the past year.
