Exploring the Experiences of Black Muslim Women in Alberta Emergency Departments

Summary

Black Muslim women have a unique set of religious and cultural beliefs that impact how they receive healthcare. This research project explores how race, faith, and gender impact Black Muslim women’s experiences receiving care in emergency departments (EDs) in Alberta. By sharing your experiences as a participant, you can contribute your voice to improved health equity for Albertans. Participating in this study will require an in-depth interview for approximately 1 hour about your experience and a 10-15 minute meeting a few weeks after the interview to review the analyzed results of the study to see if they accurately reflect your experiences. The interview will consist of being asked open-ended questions that will prompt you to describe your emergency room experience in-depth, and the second meeting will be the review of a chart.
