The FOCUSED study: FMT in OCD patients

Summary

This study will explore the safety and efficacy of Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) in individuals with OCD. Participants will be given FMT capsules and asked to provide stool, urine, saliva, and blood samples, and will be followed on a weekly basis for a period of 4 months.

Eligibility

Currently recruiting participants: Yes

Eligible ages: 18 to 65

Inclusion criteria:

1- Male and female participants aged 18-65 years.
2- Have a confirmed diagnosis of OCD.
3- Be on a stable medication treatment for OCD and experiencing symptoms for at least 12 weeks.
4- Must score 16 points or higher on the OCD diagnostic survey.
5- Able to communicate and fill questionnaires in English.
6- Able to come to the Foothills campus for each of the study visits.

Exclusion criteria:

1- Recent (last 3 months) substance use disorder, excluding cannabis.
2- Moderate or severe cannabis use in the last 3 months.
3- Active eating disorders.
4- Schizophrenia or similar mental health conditions.
5- High risk of suicide (moderate risk may be considered).
6- Participants with chronic gastrointestinal issues.
7- Past gut problems or surgeries that could block the intestines.
8- Conditions that weaken the immune system.
9- Participants using regular anti-inflammatory drugs, iron supplements or pre- and pro-biotics in the last 3 months.
10- Trouble swallowing or less than two bowel movements per week.
11- Pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding females
