Preoperative assessment: Patient experiences before a for low-risk surgery

Summary

The study is about understanding the preoperative assessment experiences and perceptions of patients who have undergone a low-risk surgery/procedure. The findings will be used to inform the design of an intervention to improve the adoption of evidence-based recommendations for pre-operative investigations. The ultimate intent is to enhance the quality of care for surgical patients undergoing pre-operative assessment.

Eligibility

Currently recruiting participants: No

Eligible ages: 18 to 100

Accepts healthy participants: Yes

Inclusion criteria:

You might be eligible to participate in our research study if you:

1. Do not have other medical conditions (i.e., heart, lung, autoimmune disease, diabetes, previous cancer)
2. Do not take blood thinning medications
3. Are 18 years or older

Exclusion criteria:

We will exclude patients that:
1. Do not provide informed consent
2. Do not speak English
3. Have not had surgery in the past year
4. Are not considered ‘otherwise healthy’
