RASTA AF
Summary
This study is looking at the effect of a home-based exercise and nutrition program, as well as other risk factor monitoring and support, on atrial fibrillation patients before they undergo an ablation procedure.
There will be two groups of patients in this study. One group will participate a telephone based program with Exercise specialists, and have their blood pressure, diabetes and sleep apnea (if applicable) monitored closely. The other group will have their ablation without these extra items and both groups will be monitored for AF recurrence and other things.
Eligibility
Eligible ages: 18 to 80
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
Symptomatic AF with plans for the ablation procedure and at least two of the following:
• Overweight
• High Blood pressure
• Diabetes
• Weakened heart muscle
• Age ≥ 65 years
• Have had a stroke
Exclusion criteria:
• Continuous AF lasting > 3 years
• Prior catheter ablation for AF,
• Enlarged left heart atrium
• Participation in a cardiac rehabilitation program within the last year
• Currently exercising >150 minutes/week (moderate to vigorous)
• Unable to exercise
