Understanding youth cannabis treatment in Alberta

Summary

The study wants to understand youth perspectives and experiences of cannabis use treatment. The study consists of taking part in an interview. We want to hear from youth (16-24), parents or legal guardians of youth, and clinicians or treatment providers.

We want to understand how, when, and where youth and their families access cannabis treatment, or if they wanted treatment or could not access it.

Eligibility

Currently recruiting participants: No

Eligible ages: 16 to 65

Accepts healthy participants: Yes

Inclusion criteria:

You can participate in this study if:

1. You live in Alberta.

2. You are a young person between the ages 16-24 and have previously received (in the last four years) or are currently seeking cannabis use treatment.

3. You are a Parent or caregiver of youth ages 16-24 and have previously received (in the last four years) or are currently seeking cannabis use treatment.

4 . You are a clinician or professional who was previously or is currently working in mental health, substance use, youth justice, child welfare, and education sectors in Alberta at some point over the past fours years.

Exclusion criteria:

You are not eligible to participate if:
1. You are under the age of 16 or over the age of 24.
2. You don't have any experience with receiving or seeking cannabis use treatment in Alberta as a youth or parent/caregiver.
3. You/your child accessed treatment more than four years ago.
4. You/your child's treatment did not take place in Alberta.
5. Your clinical experience with cannabis greater than four years ago or did not take place in Alberta.
