Vernakalant versus Amiodarone for post-operative atrial fibrillation in Cardiac Surgery Patients
Summary
This study is comparing two different anti-arrhythmic agents in patients that develop atrial fibrillation soon after cardiac surgery.
Eligibility
Eligible ages: 18 to 100
Inclusion criteria:
Patients 18 years or older who have coronary bypass surgery or valve repair/replacement.
Exclusion criteria:
1) Patients who are too sick and unstable after surgery
2) Mechanical valves or ventricular assist device
3) Atrial fibrillation ablation (MAZE) during cardiac surgery
4) History of atrial fibrillation in the past
5) Abnormal ECG parameters
6) Allergies to vernkalant or amiodarone
7) Major liver or lung disease
