Alberta Innovates

Alberta Innovates is a provincially funded corporation with a mandate to deliver 21st-century solutions for the most compelling challenges facing Albertans. This is achieved by building on Alberta’s research and technology development strengths in the core sectors of health, environment, energy, food and fibre, and platforms such as artificial intelligence, nanotechnology and omics.

Bio Sector

Alberta Innovates develops and manages funding programs focused on the agriculture, food and forest sectors. These programs are aligned with government priorities and targeted to various stages of the innovation spectrum. They range from discovery of new knowledge to application and commercialization.

Health Innovations

Alberta Innovates invests millions of dollars a year in health research and innovation spanning activity from the lab to the bedside to the community. Funding programs emphasize collaborative research and innovation activity and target Albertans’ health priorities. Applications to funding competitions are reviewed by global and community experts to ensure top quality activity with the greatest promise of impact is supported.

Clean Energy

Alberta Innovates invests in research and innovation aimed at clean energy technologies, which will advance Alberta’s energy sector and meet world-class environmental standards. Clean Energy programs are created to develop, adapt, and commercialize innovative technologies that maximize the value of the province’s natural and renewable resources while protecting the environment.
