Eligibility

Governor’s Award nominees are required to:
- be Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, or be otherwise legally permitted to work in Canada
- conduct and support research in Economics or Finance in Canada (nominations where the majority of the research is in Canada could also be considered)
- have obtained a PhD within ten years of their nomination
- be employed by a Canadian university in an associate or assistant professor position during the term of the Award
Summary
The Governor’s Award provides financial support to academics who are recognized for their expertise and research in areas important to the Bank's core functions.
The award consists of a $30,000 annual research grant for a term of up to two years, subject to an annual review and confirmation process.

Governor's Award Nomination Process
A complete nomination includes:
Nominating university
- cover page
- nomination letter (signed by either the University President (see below) or candidate's Dean)
- curriculum vitae
- research program and plan
- recent paper and four abstracts
Independent referee (optional)
6. a reference letter
All documents are to be sent to fellowship-bourses@bankofcanada.ca.
Submission
Each party (nominating university; referee (optional)) must submit their required document(s) to the Bank of Canada (fellowship-bourses@bank-banque-canada.ca) by November 29, 2024.
Nomination by the President of the University of Calgary
Candidates seeking nomination by the President of the University of Calgary must send the complete nomination package to Research Services (researchawards@ucalgary.ca), including a draft nomination letter, by November 15, 2024, in order to give time for the review, editing, and signing of the nomination. Research Services will submit the required documents (see Submitted by the Nominating University, above), including the nomination letter, to the Bank of Canada.
