Summary
The purpose of this funding call is to offer timely, relevant and scientifically rigorous evidence to emergency medicine decision-makers and knowledge-users in Alberta. In addition to achieving the goal of Building Research Capacity, this funding opportunity also serves to engage and collaborate with the network of academic researchers established by the Emergency Strategic Clinical Network (ESCN) Scientific Office. Further, this funding call supports the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Strategy for Clinical Health Research Innovation and Analytics which endorses partnerships with academic researchers at Alberta universities.
This competition will encourage the development of implementable and scalable ideas that will improve the quality of emergency medicine care delivery within the Health Quality Council of Alberta’s six domains of quality: appropriateness, accessibility, effectiveness, efficiency, safety, and acceptability. This competition will advance the ESCN Scientific Office’s long-term research goals, which are aligned with the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences’ performance indicators: (1) advancing knowledge; (2) capacity building; (3) informing decision making; (4) health impacts; and (5) broad economic and social impacts. Alignment with ESCN priority areas is also a review criterion. This competition will advance priorities of relevance to the ESCN mandate, particularly those related to the ESCN Transformational Roadmap or emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the degree to which proposed projects promote Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will be considered in evaluation of all research project applications.
Patient and Family Advisors may be included as project team members. Groups which work to assist researchers in engaging Patient and Family Advisors include the Alberta Strategy for Patient Oriented Research SUPPORT Unit (AbSPORU) and University of Calgary Patient and Community Engagement Research (PaCER) program.
Submission Process
This competition will be part of the Research Management System (RMS), and approvals will be obtained electronically. Research Funding Application Approvals (RFAA) forms are not required as approvals are collected electronically in RMS.
Full Proposal
The Full Proposal, plus approval in the Research Management System (RMS) using a Pre-Award/Application record, must be submitted to RSO by January 23, 2024 at 12:00 pm. Please be sure to select 'Submitted for approval' (under Save & Progress) in RMS in good time to allow for approvals from your Department Head and/or ADR prior to the RSO internal deadline. Consult your department and faculty for more information on their approval processes and timelines.
Do not submit to the agency until RSO's approval has been granted in RMS. Once this institutional approval has been obtained, the Principal Investigator will receive an automated message from RMS to their @ucalgary email address. You can then proceed with submitting your application to the ESCN by January 26, 2024. You must submit the application as a single PDF via email to emergency.scn@ahs.ca (CC: patrick.mclane@ahs.ca).
