CPRC invites applicants to respect a total limit of $60,000 for the CPRC portion of funding, which includes direct and indirect costs. A maximum overhead of 25% is acceptable to CPRC (included in the total CPRC budget).
Industry funds, whether from CPRC or another source, must be matched by matching funds from sources other than industry in a proportion of at least 1 :1. Higher quid pro quo ratios are preferable.
Summary
CPRC Call for 2026 Letters of Intent (LOI)
The CPRC Board identified three top priority categories among the CPRC Research Priorities for this call. Specific priority areas and desired research outcomes have been identified within the categories. The 2026 call for LOIs encompasses the top three research priorities that are identified below. This call does not preclude projects not in the top identified research categories.
Research Priorities – 2026 Call
Improved Poultry Health (including disease prevention)
- Emerging and re-emerging diseases (e.g., HPAI, IBV, aMPV, IBH, Histomoniasis) and other pathogen-specific concerns (e.g., SE, Campylobacter)
- Development and evaluation of new or improved vaccines
- Early detection and flock health monitoring
- Understanding pre-existing health conditions contributing to DOAs
- Air quality and ventilation improvements
Enhanced Antimicrobial Stewardship (including alternatives)
- Feed and water additives (e.g., probiotics, essential oils, acidifiers)
- Gut health strategies
- Economic and practical barriers to adoption
- Alternative production systems and genetic considerations
Enhanced Poultry Welfare & Behaviour
- Stocking density impacts (especially in breeders)
- Environmental enrichment and outcome measures
- Extended lay & bird longevity
- Welfare risks under extreme weather conditions
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
LOI Stage:
- Complete LOI application using the provided form.
- Upload a copy of your final and complete LOI application to the RMS Application record, and submit for academic approvals. Please ensure that you allow enough time for academic approvals prior to the Research Services (RSO) final internal deadline of NOON, January 27, 2026.
- RMS will notify you that institutional approval has been provided. No institutional signature is required at this stage. You may now submit the LOI via email on or before 3:00PM on January 30, 2026.
For Full Application: *note that we don't yet know the final deadline for full application
- If invited, complete Full Proposal form provided by PRC.
- To initiate internal approvals, complete the Pre-Award/Application record in RMS (https://research.ucalgary.ca/conduct-research/additional-resources/resea...), attach your completed Application, and submit for approvals from your department head and/or faculty Associate Dean (Research). *Important: when submitting in RMS, please ensure that you allow time for academic approvals prior to the Research Services review deadline three business days in advance of the sponsor deadline.
- Once these approvals are obtained, RMS will automatically forward the Application record to Research Services for institutional review and approval.
- Research Services will review, provide feedback (by email) if necessary, and will provide the institutional approval. If signatures are required, we will provide the final capping institutional signature and will advise when ready. RSO does not collect department head signatures.
- Full Applications, including any supplementary documentation, should be submitted to the agency ahead of their final deadline (TBD).

Approvals
NOTE: Consult your Faculty Associate Dean (Research) (ADR) regarding Faculty-specific deadlines and submission processes.
Principal Investigators: Complete a Research Management System (RMS) record, including a copy of your complete application, and submit this for approvals in RMS.
Postdocs, students, and trainees: For fellowships and externally-sponsored research training awards or opportunities, you must complete the Research Funding Application Approval (RFAA) Trainee PDF form, and submit it, along with a complete copy of the application, to Research Services at rsotrainee@ucalgary.ca. Trainees should not use RMS at this time.
Approvals: The University of Calgary requires that all funding applications be approved prior to submission. Approval requires signatures via either RMS or the RFAA Trainee form, in the following order:
- Principal Investigator
- Department Head
- Faculty ADR/Dean
- Research Services (on behalf of the Vice-President Research)
Read the Meaning of Grant Signatures policy to understand what your approval means. Please see the agency guidelines for details about which signatures are required on your application, as it may differ from internal requirements.
Late submissions: Late submissions will only be accepted in cases of medical or family emergencies, or other exceptional circumstances. If you submit your RMS record to Research Services after the internal deadline has passed, you must secure additional approvals. Please read: Late Applications Process.
