Joint Police and Mental Health Team Response to Mental Health Calls: Unique Challenges, Successes, and Emerging Best Practices
Summary
Mental health crises are rising in Canada. In 2021, 26.1% of Canadians reported fair or poor mental health. Wellness checks involve police calls about a person's mental and physical health. Such checks during mental health crises have led to serious injuries and deaths of Canadians. Police and mental health teams work together to better assist people in mental health crisis.
This study will involve in-person or virtual interviews to better understand the experiences of different people regarding the co-responding police and mental health team model and explore factors that affect how well a co-responding team works.
This interview will take 60 minutes and it will be audio-recorded. Participants will be compensated for their time.
