Supporting Healthy Teen Dating Relationships in Métis Communities: Cultural Adaptation of the Moms & Teens for Safe Dates Program for Métis Families
Summary
The purpose of this study is to understand Métis perspectives on dating violence with the intention to adapt a dating violence prevention program for use with Métis communities in Alberta. This study aims to understand the perspectives of Métis parents/caregivers, as well as Métis teens and young adults (ages 14-24), with the main goal of uplifting Métis voices to better understand how dating violence prevention programming can be adapted to prioritize the needs and values of Métis communities in Alberta.
Eligibility
Eligible ages: 14 to 99
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
To be eligible as a parent/caregiver, participants must:
1) Self-identify as Métis,
2) Have, at some time in their lives, been a parent or caregiver to a child aged 10-17, and
3) Have experienced any form of intimate partner violence (i.e., physical, sexual, psychological violence and/or stalking) but are not currently experiencing violence.
To be eligible as a youth or young adult, participants must:
1) Be between the ages of 14 and 24
2) Self-identify as Métis
Exclusion criteria:
- Youth under 14 years of age
- Those living outside of Alberta
