A vision for a healthy Alberta
Clinical, Health Services, and Population Health Research Platform Strategy
Our vision is for an Alberta where evidence-informed policies promote healthy choices and prevent illness and injury; where health care is of high quality and its delivery is efficient, sustainable, personalized and equitable; and where novel, locally developed products and services capture health and economic benefits for citizens.
The University of Calgary has a strong track record of achievement in interdisciplinary health research and training and has made substantial investments in basic research. The Clinical, Health Services and Population Health Research Platform Strategy complements the university’s four health-relevant strategic research themes — Brain and Mental Health; Engineering Solutions for Health: Biomedical Engineering; Human Dynamics in a Changing World; and Infections, Inflammation and Chronic Disease in a Changing World — all of which identify content-specific areas for future research. This strategy specifically concerns research that will cross-cut the strategic themes — clinical research, research on health services and systems, and research on the social, cultural and environmental factors that affect health populations — focusing on content areas identified within the four themes and leveraging our strengths in basic research.
