Co-presented by the Knowledge Engagement team and the Research Services Legal & IP team, this session helps develop an understanding of the relationship governance practices for keeping your partnerships strong. This session also explores the variety of research collaboration scenarios available, the benefits/trade-offs of each, and the agreements required.
This webinar is open to students, faculty, staff, postdocs and community members.
About the speakers
Marissa Montgomery,
Contracts & Compliance Officer, Legal & Intellectual Property, Research Services
An alumna of UCalgary, Marissa has a background in communications, political science, and education. Marissa joined the Research Services office in 2013 and is responsible for the drafting and negotiation of a broad portfolio of research contracts and partnership agreements including international and US federally funded partnerships. Her role with the Legal & IP team also includes oversight and administration of the University’s financial conflict of interest process.
Catherine McCleary,
Contracts Specialist, Legal & Intellectual Property, Research Services
Catherine joined the Research Services Office in 2019 as a Contracts Specialist responsible for drafting and negotiation of research agreements. Her full-circle contracts management background in negotiation and fulfillment of high-value corporate sponsorships in both professional sport and major festivals gives Catherine practical understanding of how a legal agreement can help mitigate the challenges of relationship management, project fulfillment and reporting obligations.
Sarelle Azuelos, Knowledge Engagement Specialist
Sarelle is the Knowledge Engagement Specialist who facilitates research partnership matchmaking between UCalgary researchers and community organizations, and supports knowledge mobilization planning. She has experience in community engagement, social justice advocacy, and community-driven research practices.
Navigating Partnered Research is a digital series hosted by the Knowledge Engagement team in Research Services to provide support and guidance for faculty members interested in pursuing partnerships with community.
