The Give a Breath Research Award is open to researchers as defined by an individual who is autonomous regarding their research activities, and has an academic or research appointment at a Canadian institution which:
1. Must commence by the effective date of funding.
2. Allows the individual to pursue the proposed research project, to engage in independent research activities for the entire duration of the funding, to supervise trainees (if applicable, as per their institution’s policy), and to publish the research results.
3. Obligates the individual to conform to institutional regulations concerning the conduct of research, the supervision of trainees, and the employment conditions of staff paid with the funding.
4. Fellows may apply provided they are under the supervision of a primary investigator who meets the requirements of a “researcher” as defined above.
5. New researchers/investigators involved in pilot, basic science, and/or proof of concept projects, are strongly encouraged to apply.
Summary
Lung Cancer Canada is excited to announce that, thanks to Give a Breath 5k and the Monds family, it will be launching a new research award inspired by the personal journey of Give a Breath 5k’s founder, Tim Monds, a stage 4 lung cancer patient and advocate. The Give A Breath Research Grant is aimed at supporting research programs focused on patients living with advanced (i.e. stage III or IV) lung cancer in Canada, specifically exploring research initiatives beyond first-line therapy. Applications are encouraged from, but not limited to, the areas of biomedical, clinical, health services, social, and population health research.
The overall goal of the Give a Breath Research Grant is to reduce the burden of lung cancer and optimize patient care. It is not intended to support awareness programs and is not intended to solely support research infrastructure. This is intended as a research grant and the funds may not be completely used to support a fellow.
