Eligibility
Postdoctoral fellows or investigators who hold an academic appointment at a Canadian University in a Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine or other Graduate Faculty are eligible to apply to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada as principal investigator for grant support of their research. The
research proposed must have a clear connection to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s Promise Statement.
Principal Investigators must reside in Canada to apply for funding. Co-Principal Investigators based outside of Canada are acceptable.
A Co-Principal Investigator is an individual who is expected to actively participate in the proposed activities but not to direct them.
A Collaborator is an individual whose role in the proposed activities is to provide a specific service (e.g. access to equipment, provision of specific reagents, training in a specialized technique, statistical analysis, access to a patient population, etc.).
If an applicant does not hold an academic appointment at the time of submitting an application, a cover letter from the Dean of the Faculty must be uploaded to the application, indicating the planned position and the date it will take effect.
Investigators in Faculties other than the health sciences may also apply if the proposed research is deemed relevant to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s Promise and strategic directions.
If the research is to be done in a hospital or other healthcare facility, the signature of that institution’s officer certifies that appropriate space and resources are available and will be provided to the applicant.
Support for qualified undergraduate and graduate students within the operating budget is permissible.
In order to be eligible to receive funding for an Innovations in IBD grant from Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, recipients must be members of the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada IBD Research Institute.
Summary
Crohn's and Colitis Canada invites applications for an Innovations Grant, to fund novel or innovative approaches to IBD research. This grant is intended to stimulate and support research which may not be encompassed within the boundaries of traditional medical research. Research proposals must conform to sound principles of research and may aim to collect pilot data for follow-on application(s). Our organization seeks mission relevance and excellence as well as innovation.
Submission Process
Applications to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada are via proposalCENTRAL.
All U of C applications are submitted through the Research Management System (RMS) to initiate internal approvals. Please note, when the RMS record finally reaches Research Services by the internal deadline, it should contain all the relevant Department and Faculty approvals, so please allow additional time for these steps. Late applications will only be accepted in cases of medical or family emergencies, or other exceptional circumstances. If you submit your RMS record to Research Services after the internal deadline has passed, you will need to secure additional late approvals from your Faculty Associate Dean (Research) and the Executive Director, Research Services. A link to RMS can be found here which includes training resources.
- Complete your online application according to the agency guidelines
- To initiate internal approvals, complete the Pre-Award/Application record in RMS, attach your completed Application, and submit for approvals from your department head and/or faculty Associate Dean (Research). *Important: when submitting in RMS, please ensure that you allow time for academic approvals prior to the Research Services review deadline of 12:00pm on November 25, 2022
- Once these approvals are obtained, RMS will automatically forward the Application record to Research Services for institutional review and approval.
- Research Services will review, provide feedback (by email) if necessary, and will provide the institutional approval. If digital or wet-ink signatures are required, we will provide the capping institutional signature and will advise when ready.
- Full Applications, including any supplementary documentation, should be submitted to the agency via Proposal Central by 5PM Eastern (3PM Mountain time) on November 30, 2022.
