Determining the proportion of small animal euthanasias performed due to economic limitations in Alberta and investigating owner perspectives.
Summary
Economic euthanasia describes when a pet is euthanized because its owner is unable to afford life-saving treatment. This study aims to determine how often economic euthanasia occurs in Alberta and the impact it has on pet owners mental health and perception on veterinary medicine.
Eligibility
Eligible ages: 18 to 100
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
Participants in the study need to have experienced euthanizing a cat or dog for financial reasons. To be included in the study, this experience must have occurred in an Alberta veterinary clinic and the animal must have been expected to live one year or longer if they had received treatment.
