2020 Call for Summer Studentship Proposals

Infections, Inflammation and Chronic Diseases in the Changing Environment (IICD) Research Strategy through the Vice President (Research) has provided funding for the development of research areas identified in the strategy. The investment has funded ambitious interdisciplinary research initiatives that have the capacity for far reaching impact and the potential to leverage external funding and partnerships. IICD is investing directly in student research through a ‘call for summer studentship proposals’ for novel multi-disciplinary projects in the area of infections, inflammation and chronic diseases in the changing environment.

Criteria

The main criteria for the ‘call for proposals’ are the following:

  • Multi-disciplinary co-supervised project.
  • Co-supervisors must be affiliated with the IICD.
  • Co-supervisors must commit a combined minimum of $1,000 per year per successful applicant.

Integration of the International Microbiome Centre (IMC) platforms into research scope of project.

Objectives

To support up to 4 summer studentship research proposals to the extent of $5,000 each per year starting in May 2020 (yearly support period from May 1st to August 31st).

Proposals need to present new strategic initiatives that are highly feasible, have potential for great impact in the field, and involve a co-supervision of established and emerging researchers representing at least two disciplines. The proposed studentships will have the capacity to significantly enhance IICD multi-disciplinary research through the International Microbiome Centre (IMC) technology platforms and to provide a competitive edge for external funding opportunities.

The proposed initiatives need to align with the Infections, Inflammation and Chronic Diseases in the Changing Environment Research Strategy.

New ideas and supervision with co-supervisors who have not previously collaborated are encouraged.

Application Deadline

Applications are due February 15, 2020.
